Berlin, 10 March 2008 – Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier has agreed to act as patron of LinuxTag 2009. As at the previous event, his support will emphasise the importance of this technology for industry as an innovative force in Germany and for medium-sized enterprises in Germany and Europe.

This is another reason why under Steinmeier’s leadership the foreign ministry’s IT strategy has developed in the direction of open source and Linux.. Improvements in efficiency have not only led to the foreign ministry achieving by far the lowest IT costs of all federal ministries, but also represent an investment in innovation and the creation of jobs in mostly medium-sized enterprises in Germany and Europe. . As such, the foreign ministry’s IT strategy also contributes to local industry in Germany.
