With the release of Samba 4.0 in December 2012, an Open Source implementation of an Active Directory compatible domain controller has finally become available.

In the pre-release phase of Samba 4, SerNet has started to provide a Debian based Software appliance built around Samba 4. The original motivation of this appliance was to make it very easy to test Samba 4 features. With version 1.0 of "samba4app", SerNet now goes the next step and wants to make their appliance useful for small businesses: In addition to the menu-driven installer and Domain-configuration wizard (dcpromo), samba4app now additionally features the Zarafa groupware along with a configuration wizard, and a webmin configuration interface for many aspects of the system.

This presentation describes the design and features of samba4app 1.0 and demonstrates its most important and compelling features.
