von Dr. Joseph Somogyi (Mozilla WebFWD)

WebFWD ("Web Forward") is Mozilla's Open Innovation program. It supports Open Source projects which extend the Web; providing participants with mentorship from industry experts, access to the Mozilla global network, infrastructure and other world-class resources.

Based on the Mozilla Manifesto https://www.mozilla.org/about/manifesto.en.html, it is driven by these several aspects: The effectiveness of the Internet as a public resource depends upon interoperability (protocols, data formats, content), innovation and decentralized participation worldwide. Free and open source software promotes the development of the Internet as a public resource.

Transparent community-based processes promote participation, accountability, and trust. Commercial involvement in the development of the Internet brings many benefits; a balance between commercial goals and public benefit is critical. Magnifying the public benefit aspects of the Internet is an important goal, worthy of time, attention and commitment.

WebFWD does not distribute money for promising open source projects, but educates and supports the teams of selected OS projects and it´s industry partners may offer discounts.
