LinuxTag e.V. and Messe Berlin agree on long-term collaboration. The relocation of LinuxTag to the German capital proved to be a success. The organizers of Europe?s largest event for Linux and free software came to this conclusion one day before the end of the combined four day trade show and convention. By Friday over 7,000 people from Germany and abroad had already visited the exhibition halls at Berlin?s Funkturm, more than the figure for the same period when the event was held in Wiesbaden in 2006. Some 85 per cent of the visitors questioned were positive about the move to Berlin. When LinuxTag ends on Saturday attendance is expected to have reached around 10,000.

An agreement on long-term collaboration was signed on Friday by the organizers of this annual combination of trade show and convention ? LinuxTag e.V. and Messe Berlin.

Oliver Zendel, Chairman of LinuxTag e.V.: ?We are very satisfied with the successful way in which free software has been publicized so widely and so positively. This gives us assurance and a confident feeling about the ongoing, long-term continuation of this collaboration.?

Jens Heithecker, Director of Messe Berlin: ?We are delighted that this collaboration has begun so successfully. Working together we shall continue to develop LinuxTag as a platform for open source community and business.?

The slogan of this year?s LinuxTag is ?Come in, we're open!?. The dominant themes of this community and business event were the virtualization of operating systems, technical possibilities for Web 2.0 and new developments in the world of free and open source software.

Some 80 development and user projects with over 350 participants from more than 40 countries in Europe and elsewhere in the world staged their presentations in the Berlin exhibition halls at the Linux trade show. The 47 commercial exhibitors included the official LinuxTag sponsors IBM, Novell and Sun Microsystems, and the industry association Linux-Verband e. V.

This year?s LinuxTag convention was larger than ever, with over 200 papers in 30 conference blocks. The LinuxTag Conference reflected the entire range of free and open source software, with papers, presentations, workshops and tutorials.
