Der Linux Client für IBM Mitarbeiter

Dieser Vortrag soll die Verbreitung von Linux als Client Plattform fördern. Die IBM hat einen sogenannten "Open Client for Linux” entwickelt, der ein strategisches Element im Rahmen ihrer Desktop Linux Strategy darstellt. Dieser Client ist für alle IBM Mitarbeiter auf freiwilliger Basis verfügbar. Er kann zusätzlich zum Windows Client genutzt werden, aber er kann auch in Abhängigkeit des Tätigkeitsfeldes des Mitarbeiters den Windows Client komplett ersetzen.

Dieser Vortrag gibt einen Einblick in die Erfahrungen der IBM, bei der Konzeption und beim Ausrollen ihres Linux Clients. Darüberhinaus stellt dieser Vortrag die Architektur des Open Client for Linux und den notwendigen Client Softwarestack vor wie u.a. IBM Workplace, das Lotus Notes Plugin, Collaboration Tools, Drucker Services, spezielle Thinkpad Unterstützung, VPN Tools, Backup Tools, Security Tools zum Virenschutz und der Einhaltung allgemeiner Sicherheitsvorschriften.

Bei einem derartige Vortrag darf die Demonstration nicht fehlen. Wenn aber aufgrund der Kürze des Vortrags für eine Vorführung keine Zeit bleiben sollte, führe ich den Open Client for Linux auch gerne in Pausen oder auf einer speziellen Demosession vor.
