Thematic Focus
Broad participation is essential for a project like LinuxTag, which consists mainly of shared knowledge. To encourage cutting-edge lectures, we welcome whatever proposal you have in mind. Are you working on some brand-new project? Are you experienced in imparting knowledge in the field of open source software? You are welcome to submit your abstract for the LinuxTag Open Lectures or the Practical Linux Forum. Please find some addidtional considerations below.
The focus of LinuxTag is naturally on Technology, Free Software and Linux, but we also welcome submissions on non-technical issues (including social and political topics), other operating systems (such as BSD derivatives or other Unices), or Open Source projects. Controversial points of view are welcome if the topic may be of interest to LinuxTag visitors, and the opinion is presented in an articulate manner.
In the past, LinuxTag has received a broad diversity of proposals. The program committee reserves the right to place emphasis on topics of their choosing. LinuxTag 2007 will focus on the following topics:
- Virtualization of computing power saw substantial progress in the meantime, but new questions arise: Which approach is suitable for which problem? Then, what are the requirements for systems and applications? And: new management solutions offer answers for questions like maintainability in an enterprise environment.
- Web 2.0 Web 2.0 is getting mature: AJAX and mashups not only help to build blogs and wikis, but, –what is more– to set up valuable applications. Empahis shifts to integrate different media, like images, video and audio, to build modern web applications. Syndication helps to get the information through to the user. What is the importance of scripting languages and frameworks (like Perl/Catalyst, Ruby/Rails or Python/Zope) now?
- "What is special about the success story of Open Source – how can I take part?¨ – More and more users come up with this question. Topic ¨New to Linux?¨ aims to provide ideas, navigation and solutions for beginners and helps in the day-to-day use of Linux. Newbies get the idea of how the Open Source community works, and how to take part into this process.
Possible Topics
Additionally, the LinuxTag program committee is looking for abstracts for LinuxTag in any area. Additional speakers and keynotes may be selected by invitation.
