Official announce of the 4th edition of Les trophées du libre

von Camille Moulin (Cetril)

Freitag, 01.06.2007, Forum Messehalle, 17:00-18:00 Uhr

We are Cetril (http://www.cetril.org/) (European Center for research and technology transfer in Free/Open Source software), a non-profit organisation aimed at developing local economy in the Soissons region (France) through the promotion of FOSS.

Since 2003, we have been organising Les Trophées du libre ( http://www.tropheesdulibre.org/ - international FOSS awards) in Soissons. This competition aims at promoting FOSS projects within the FOSS community and outside it. It's also a way of drawing the attention of a wider public to FOSS in general.

We attach great importance to the international dimension of this event: last year 15 nationalities were represented, not only on the jury of 34 experts but also in the 122 projects presented. That's why we would be very interested in officially announcing the launch of the 4th edition of les Trophées du libre at Linux Tag. That would include a general presentation of the event, official dates for project submissions and for the ceremony, the nature of prizes, etc.

One of our goals is to create synergy between FOSS projects and local development. For example, we recently organised our first DevCamp dedicated to DebianEdu (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/DevCampFrance2007) in order to develop an activity of recycling legacy computers into thin clients and to promote the use of DebianEdu in local schools.
