OpenWengo: unifying VoIP, video conferencing and instant messaging
von Dave Neary (Wengo)
Donnerstag, 31.05.2007, Workshop 1 (ICC-B/R44), 11:00-12:00 Uhr
OpenWengo unifies all aspects of communication over IP, including: Video conferencing, Computer to computer calls, Computer to phone or cellphone calls, SMS to cellphones, and Instant messaging with MSN, AIM, Jabber and ICQ.
OpenWengo is a GPL project, which depends on a great number of other free software projects for technology - including osip, exosip, portaudio, boost, gaim and more. We have a young, but vibrant, community which is building up around the project.
The WengoPhone 2.1 release is a major milestone for the project, representing the completion of a re-engineering effort which has brought us a lot of functionality, and which brings a stable, fully featured communication over IP tool to Linux (as well as Windows and Mac OS X).
Dave will present our technology and our community, including a live phone call home and a video conference.
Über den Autor Dave Neary:
Dave Neary has been involved in free software for over ten years, first as a user, then as a developer. During that time he has helped develop gnect, a Connect 4 clone for GNOME, and the GIMP, a free image manipulation programme, where he served his time as release manager for the 2.0 and 2.2 releases.
For the past three years, he has been involved in the GNOME project as a conference organiser (GIMPCon 2004, GUADEC 2004 - 2007, Libre Graphics Meeting 1 and 2) and board member of the GNOME foundation, and has started turning his attention to marketing.
This year, he has also organised FOSTEL 2007 (the Free and Open Source Telephony Summit) in Paris, and has started working on OpenWengo, a project whose goal is to create the best videophone in the world as free software. With the 2.1 release of the WengoPhone, the project is on its way to that goal in a serious way. Dave is currently the OpenWengo community development manager at Wengo.
Dave lives in Lyon, France with his pregnant wife Annd and his two sons, Thomas and Paul, who are his greatest achievements to date.
