Conferences at LinuxTag
LinuxTag is Europe's most important event for free and open-source software. In 2005, over 12,000 visitors experienced this unique combination of conferences, tutorials and trade fair. The twelfth incarnation of this great arrangement will provide up-to-date information to power users, decision makers and researchers, as well as to software developers, newcomers and the open-source community.
There will be various sub-conferences taking place during LinuxTag, designed for different target groups. Below you will find an overview:
LinuxTag Open Lectures: May 4 - 6, 2006
There will be parallel panels offering lectures both for those interested in the technical as well as the social aspects of open-source software. These talks will be held mostly by active members of projects or initiatives.
Most of the LinuxTag Open Lectures will be chosen by the program committee from the abstracts submitted. These will be complemented by a number of talks by invited speakers.
Practical Linux Forum: May 3 - 6, 2006
This user-oriented series of lectures will present a number of well-known applications, and provide practical advice particularly to those who work with Linux every day.
Most of the Practical Linux Forum lectures will be given by invited speakers, but some presenters will be chosen from submitted abstracts. If you are interested in presenting in this Forum, your application must inlcude not only evidence of your expertise, but also of your ability to clearly impart that knowledge to an audience.
Company Presentations: May 3 - 6, 2006
Exhibiting companies will be given the opportunity to present their products and services. To schedule a presentation, contact the LinuxTag exhibitor service.
Business and Government Conference: May 3, 2006
This conference offers the rare opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the professional uses of Linux and open-source software in business and public administration.
Most of the presenters will be invited speakers. Participants are required to register and pay conference fees.
Tutorials: May 2 - 4, 2006
The tutorials will include both half-day and full-day sessions. Most of the tutorial leaders are active project members, book authors or experienced trainers.
Participants must pay registration fees.
Workshops and BoFs: May 3 - 6, 2006
Workshops are events with an interactive character, and are mainly offered by the projects represented at the conference. These are not lectures, but rather open discussion sessions, for example, or developers' meetings to facilitate the coordination of work on free projects.
Birds-of-a-Feather sessions can be initiated on-the-fly at LinuxTag, subject to the availability of event facilities.
Trade Fair/Exhibition: May 3 - 6, 2006
During the four days of the conference, over 160 companies and projects will present information, products and services having to do with Linux and free and open-source software.
