KOffice is a lightweight and easy-to-use office suite integrated with KDE (K Desktop Environment). Initially served as a test-bed for various KDE technologies, after eight years of development KOffice has become more matured and offers a full range applications to give the best user experience possible. Not only it has the common productivity applications (such as word processor and presentation), but now creativity applications Karbon14 (vector drawing) and Krita (image manipulation) as well KPlato (project management) and Kexi (database) already become available as family members of KOffice.
In its latest release, KOffice also supports fully OASIS OpenDocument format natively. This support is important to avoid vendor lock-in, improve better interoperability, as well as document interchange with other applications.
This paper will describe the latest progress and enhancements in the development of KOffice, among others the improved accessibility, OpenDocument support, upcoming port to non Unix operating system, scripting, and some hidden tips-and-tricks. The key features of the applications will also be highlighted.
