Using Geeklog as a Web Application Framework

von Dirk Haun (Geeklog Development Team)

Samstag, 06.05.2006, Raum 1A-3, 11:30-13:00 Uhr

Geeklog, while officially "only" a CMS / blog engine, can also serve as a powerful framework for web applications. With only 3 lines of PHP code, it will not only wrap your application into Geeklog's layout but will also give you full access to Geeklog's permission system which provides hierarchical user groups and gives you fine-grained access control for your site content.

The workshop will start with an introduction into programming in Geeklog's context and demonstrate typical use cases as well as third-party projects that have successfully been integrated into Geeklog.

We will then take requests from the audience and try to develop an integration or at least provide leads as to how it could be done.

Über den Autor Dirk Haun:

Dirk Haun has been developing software in C and C++ for smart card POS terminals, PDAs and smartphones, service level management tools, and is currently working on systems for document processing and conversion. In his spare time, he is maintaining Geeklog, an open source PHP based CMS.

Dirk took over Geeklog from Tony Bibbs, the project's previous maintainer, three years ago. After taking some new developers on board, the project has just released Geeklog 1.4, a major upgrade to the software, earlier this year. Dirk and the team are now looking into broadening Geeklog's user base and demonstrating its abilities, hence the participation at this year's LinuxTag.
