Ekiga - The Open Source Multi-Protocols VoIP Application

Ekiga is the new generation Open Source VoIP application.

Ekiga is a SIP and H.323 compatible VoIP, IP Telephony, and videoconferencing application that allows you to make audio and video calls to remote users with SIP or H.323 hardware and software. It supports all modern VoIP features for both SIP and H.323. Ekiga was formerly known as GnomeMeeting.

The talk will give an history of Ekiga and of its development. It will present all features of Ekiga, using H.323 and SIP, explaining how to do PC-To-Phone calls, Phone-To-PC calls and have a free alternative to other popular VoIP application.

The talk will end with a demonstration of the IP Telephony features with the Asterisk Open Source PBX.

Damien Sandras is the creator and developer of the Ekiga (formerly named GnomeMeeting) VoIP, IP Telephony and videoconferencing software. Apart from this, he is part of the FOSDEM (Free and Open Source Developers' European Meeting) core team, but also a long-time Free Software proponent. He is a strong believer in standards and in VoIP technologies.

He is currently working for Multitel, a research center specialized in Open Source, image processing, vocal technologies and telecommunications. Damien holds a M. Sc. in computing science engineering and a Diploma of Extended Studies from the Université Catholique de Louvain where he started to work on GnomeMeeting as a graduation thesis.
