Traditional telcos and carriers as well as large enterprises have very high demands and expectations towards a telephony switch or PBX as these services are assumed to run reliably all the time. Phone service today is synonymous with 99,999% availability.
In this presentation the author will show you how his company built an infrastructure purely on open standards and with Open Source technologies to extend and eventually replace a traditional public telephony switch. You will learn which tools have been used to achieve this ambitious objective, which problems had to be resolved, which drawbacks exist and where there is still room for improvement.
The presentation features all recent and cutting edge protocols and technologies, including: SIP, ENUM, wideband codecs, Skype, Asterisk, DUNDI, SER, encryption and legal requirements.
