Projects of LinuxTag e.V.

The LinuxTag association pursues its aims in several ways. In addition to its original and still most important activity -- organizing exhibition and conference events -- the association has spun off several other projects:

Knoppix

This well-known and fast-spreading distribution was originally created within the LinuxTag project, and is now maintained as a seperate  project. Knoppix starts a complete Linux system from a CD or DVD-ROM with no hard disk installation required. The "live-CD" distribution is especially suited for newcomers to open source software.

Open Music

the Open Music project was founded in 2001 to show that the idea of Open Source can be extended onto fields besides software. The project team has, with help from lawyers, developed a set of licenses (the Green, Yellow and Red Open Music licenses) and brought together international artists who have published several of their works on a sampler CD under these licenses. If you are looking for GEMA-free music, this is what you are searching for.

miniContent

At a time when many small websites were still managed by hand with just a text editor and an FTP client, there was the need for a simple but effective solution for the administration of small to medium-sized websites. The LinuxTag-developed miniContent system was behind the LinuxTag website from 2000 to 2002.

Metatron & SilentBob

This project was developed as a design study to analyse in how far XML can be used as a base for complex content management systems. The LinuxTag websites in 2003 and 2004 habe been run on the basis of this software.

Virtual Conference Center

To organise the LinuxTag conference, the Virtual Conference Center has been developed. The multi-tier, web-based applicaton can be individually adjusted for different conferences and adresses the organisation of speakers, talks and review processes as well as hotel bookings etc.

All software developed within the LinuxTag group is open source and is distributed under free software licenses. If you are interested in one of our projects, we apprecheate requests by  e-mail.
