Videostreaming in der Gebäudeautomation

Up to now, video systems in the field of constructed oriented architecture are a relatively new field of research. The first part of the article introduces the two emerging fields of activity building intelligence and global communication and explains applications using video systems in the context of architecture. Further on, a novel video system that has been developed within an interdisciplinary research project at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich is described. The article closes with an outlook illustrating the possibilities such video systems provide in building automation. At first view, this article seems to be unusual in the context of computer science; but the second view reveals that the impact of novel technologies on the practical experience is increasing. Architecture belongs to the highly interesting application areas. The multifaceted and experimental Open-Source Developments provide, especially in this research area, the basis for creating and implementing novel concepts. This article showcases the impact of video technology and demonstrates how these technologies change our everyday life beyond the development and application community.

Über den Autor Silke Berit Lang:

Silke Lang has been a research assistant and PhD student with the Chair of CAAD at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. She earned her PhD in 2004 for her work on the investigation of video systems, especially 3D video, in an architectural context. She graduated from the University of Technology Munich, Germany (TUM) as a Diplom Engineer (Dipl.-Ing. Univ.) in Architecture in 2000 and received a degree in Information Architecture (Dipl. NDS ETHZ) from the ETH Zurich in 2001. Her research interests include information and communication technologies in architecture, building intelligence, global communication, human-computer interaction, video systems and enhanced environments.
