Browser compatibiltyThe LinuxTag website is run by the LinuxTag web-team. We try to support Free Software and open standards as far as possible, but we are pragmatic enough to know that in certain areas we need to balance between standards and effective real-world implementations. If you have questions or proposals to our website, we are happy about your feedback.
The web team: | Torsten Spindler is the central coordinator of the web team. All general questions can be addressed to him.
| | Nils Magnus is the central coordinator for Typo3, the content management system we use.
| | Petra Zellmer has done the original design for this website. Several design elements have been provided by Michael Kleinhenz.
| | Steffen Mutter, Stefan Neufeind and Rico Glöckner take care of the Typo3 internals together with Nils Magnus.
| | Stefan Neufeind, Kester Habermann and Martin Öhler are responsible for the technical operation of our webservers. They are supported by Robert Depenbrock.
| | Content and its presentation are a collaborative work of many supporters, among them Sven Guckes, Andreas Gebhard und Iris Rabener. |
Design principlesDuring an extensive discussion process we have made a certain set of design decisions: | Maximum browser compatibility. For us it is important to support the three most important browser groups (and others besides them): current versions of Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox (Gecko-engine), the khtml-Engine in Konqueror and Safari as well as current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
| | For several older versions of these browsers it is - within the limits of our resources - not feasible to provide our website with all features. This is (with varying limitations) the case for Netscape versions up to 4.7 and the Microsoft Internet Explorer before version 5.0.
| | We try to offer a widely barrier-free design. Nonetheless we have used some methods which can be a slight hindrance in some cases: we use a single table on our page to structurize our main elements. All further design elements are implemented on the basis of cascading stylesheets (CSS2). Experts know that unfortunately different browsers have diverging interpretations of certain CSS attributes. We try to do our best in these cases and are glad for constructive proposals how we can make our web design better.
| | Our web pages are designed to be also readable with a pure text-mode browser. We have tested this with lynx, elinks and w3m.
| | We try to achieve that our pages validate cleanly against the W3C DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional. This can be checked with a call to the W3C validator. Contructive proposals how we can fix possible remaining warnings are always welcome. |

Reporting problems with browsersIf you should encounter problems while displaying our webpages, we kindly ask you to give us feedback. It is important for us to be provided with an exact description of the browser in use and its version, the operation system and its version and other relevant circumstances. |
